movement of receiving God's love

We believe love and mercy win, that there are miracles in social justice and that we can create solidarity between the West and the poorest of the poor, the outcast, the orphan or the oppressed so that we all know the worth of our dignity.

Sarah’s Updates, A Car for Mozambique

Hi everyone! This is a huge request but I am in desperate need of a
new car to continue my ministry here in Mozambique. The car I am
currently driving has had lots of problems and has now broken down on
me twice within the last couple of months while I’ve been 2 hours or
more outside of the city. It’s no longer reliable. I also do not
think it is wise to spend anymore money on fixing the problems.
However, I also cannot be without a car as it is invaluable to my
ministry among the street kids here in Maputo. My car is used for the
shopping we do for Masana, the project I work with. We use my car for
all of the visits to doctors and most importantly for reintegration.
Each week, we are visiting families of the boys that have already
returned home or are in the process of returning home. Without a car,
    this is not possible.

Unfortunately, cars in Mozambique are not cheap. The transmission in
my current car has gone out again so I’m not even sure I can sale it
to help towards the cost of a new car. I am thinking I will need at
least $10,000 to purchase an SUV or truck that will serve the needs we
    have with Masana.

If you are able to give specifically towards a new vehicle, please
send donations to the below address and mark the check “Masana -
vehicle”. Checks can be made payable to Unveiled Faces and all gifts
are tax-deductible. Put MASANA VEHICLE in the memo.

Please be praying for the Lord’s provision of a new car so that I can
continue in my ministry of returning street kids to their families!

    Sarah Olds

    currently: in MOZAMBIQUE

Sarah as a child in Georgia received the Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouts.  She has gone from the radiant friendliness of bringing the delight of Thin Mints and Samoas cookies to homes, to voted with gratitude Most Dependable in high school, to now bringing food, shelter and tenderness to children who have chosen to build garbage and cinder block hovel homes in the streets of Maputo, Mozambique.  She is making certain that they do not just survive but live with restored hope.  She has been based in Maputo for over a year and this year is focusing on helping 8-18 year olds who are in the streets re-integrate with their families.  In addition, she brightens the lives of and shares friendship with children who have HIV.

Her dream is to one day have a community center where all can gather to find the rest one finds in a safe home and where children can play and teens can find real conversation and wise guidance.  For now, she is faithful with the little ones in the streets.  It is her heart to see hope restored to the hopeless.  In America, she started a partnership with government housing in which children were mentored.  It grew from 24 to 175 participants and continues today.  She also led numerous mission teams to various countries to serve.  What began as short term trips to Mozambique became giving her life to join hearts with them at this crucial time in their development as a nation.  You will find her looking out for the little ones.

    Currently in Nicaragua.

Iris Afonso was raised in a multi-lingual and mulitfaceted family with her mother being from Vietnam and her father from Argentina.  She speaks Arabic, French, Spanish, and English and graduated from Duke University in 2007 with a degree in Cultural Anthropology.  Her worshipful adventure has been a cultivation of appreciating every life around her including nature, beautiful vistas and flowers.  Despite having a scholarship to continue Arabic in Qatar, when visiting Nicaragua with her family, Iris decided she had to stay and serve the simple villages there.

    Irina Balytsky

    In Sudan.

For Irina, whose name means peace, the road to the poorest of the poor included being the poorest of the poor, born in Lviv, Ukraine– moving to America as a child and having no home, living in a kind person’s basement…to eventually her parents becoming doctors and Irina being accepted to Duke University– where in the midst of so much she encountered a very real God who had always been with her; in response she knew she was to give her life back– to the poor.  She has been on a long road to Sudan, which has included time amongst the children of Mozambique and now almost two years in rhythm of dedicated days of prayer… her journey just beginning, her heart passionate….in love as she was always meant to be.
